Back in the dim and distant past, if you wanted to take notes on the go you’d have to carry a roll of parchment and a quill with you – or more likely have a slave to do it for you. Later this evolved into the pen and notebook, then a few decades ago someone invented the cassette-based Dictaphone and revolutionised note taking forever. This was far from perfect though – tapes got tangled, batteries died and it was virtually guaranteed that your cassette would run out just as someone said something really interesting.
